Palestinians strike to protest Israel''s demolishing of houses

Arab natives of the holy city of Jerusalem observed a general strike on Sunday protesting Israel's policy of demolishing Palestinian-owned houses and construction properties.

Palestinian political parties announced the strike was held to protest drilling work at Al-Magharbeh gate of the mosque and in solidarity with a Palestinian family, expected to become homeless as a result of a plan by the Israeli authorities to demolish their residence, Demolishing of the house of Abu Aisha family in the neighboring village of Beit Haninah will be unprecedented because the construction of the house had been licensed, the parties warned in statement released here.

Israel imposes high fees on construction licences for the Palestinians in Jerusalem.

The Israelis have recently decided to resume construction work at the gate of the holy mosque.
